Brendan

What made you start pole dance classes?
I really wanted to work on my core strength (and fitness in general) but have always hated typical core exercises, so I thought pole would be a fun way to do it. I was curious about pole for years and finally had the guts to sign up. Best decision ever!

What motivates you to keep coming to classes at Studio Verve®?
The structured classes are fantastic as they help you build the skills and strength and flexibility you need to progress through the levels, so you have actual goals. It's always a great feeling to learn new skills and nail the ones you've had a love/hate relationship with. (cough THIGH HOLD cough cough)

What changes have you noticed in your life since you started pole dancing?
It's a cliche, but my self confidence has definitely improved. And the flow on effects from doing a healthy activity have inspired me to make other healthy changes in heaps of aspects of my life. It's life changing, literally.

How does pole dancing make you feel about yourself?
Confident and proud. It's an amazing and liberating feeling to step outside of my comfort zone and try something I've wanted to do for years.

What changes have family and friends noticed in you/your appearance since you started pole?
Whole body overhaul! (Hahaha) I've had comments on my arms, shoulders, chest, abs, butt, legs... It's legit the best total body work out I've ever done.

What is your next goal for pole?
I'm excited to invert next term! I used to hang out of trees and off of monkey bars constantly as a kid, so I think I'm going to love being upside down.

How long can you see yourself pole dancing for?
As long as I don't fracture another rib (this didn't happen at the studio, don't worry) I can't see myself stopping. Having goals and levels to achieve alongside the positive changes to body and mind keep me fantastically motivated.

What is your favourite thing about Studio Verve®?
The instructors are all brilliant. Between my scheduled and make-up classes I've been lucky enough to work with several of them and they all KILL IT. Jen's done an incredible job of putting together an extremely talented and dedicated team of instructors, each bringing their own flavour to their classes. I always feel supported and challenged, and have a great laugh each and every time I'm at the studio. I also love that the emphasis is on strength, flexibility and fitness, opposed to simply provocative dancing.

What are your favourite things about pole dancing?
Staying fit should not be this much fun. I've tried every kind of exercise from cross fit and boxing to running and circuit classes, and not only is PoleFit the most effective for me, it's also the most fun! I'm excited for every class so exercising isn't a chore, it's actually something I look forward to.

What is the most challenging thing about pole dancing?
I'm supremely uncoordinated and suffer from a serious case of "white boy rhythm" so some of the little dance routines just don't sink into my brain (haha). But it's great fun regardless and it's all about being active and healthy for me, and everyone is there to enjoy themselves so there's no judgment, just great energy!

Who do you think would benefit from pole dancing?
I can't see this answer ever being anything but "everybody." Who wouldn't want a boost to their confidence and fitness!? There are crazy amounts of physical and mental health benefits for any size, shape, gender or personality :)
